SCAD Challenge
So the SCAD challenge is coming up! The theme is fairly straightforward and seems to be passed from year to year-- at most, five pages of "how my art can change the world". In response, I narrowed things down to this small chunk of text;
We look to art to find embellished realities-- the places we could see, the people we could be--
And when our surroundings become too dark, we look to art to be uplifted or to seek shared experiences, veracity to face the evils in this world. We identify bits of our lives with both the knight and the beast, fragments of simultaneous vulnerability and strength, and if my art can tell at least one person that they are not alone in the battle, surely it could mean the world to those to come.
Of course I brought out my favorite go-to elements of fantasy, and I think I want to use a 'storybook' motif and really emphasize the mention of man vs beast.
I scribbled down a few notes before getting to work:
-The pages should begin and end on a book, vines growing forth to signify a bloom that comes paired with narration.
-Use fantasy scenes and personae (places we could see, people we could be)
-More realistic scene at the end, various kids/people gathered around the book; alt-- a new book being written alongside the old

End of January Studies
With this first month already up, I've got to admit that I'm pretty happy with the work I've been doing-- at least privately. I've almost entirely filled up a sketchbook after finishing another in December and as of late, I've been trying to pay close attention to painting technique.
These are two studies that I did as stress relief, only about half an hour in total, mostly for the former. The foot is from a prompt on dA.

January Studies
2017 is going to be a pretty big year for me. I become an adult this year-- I face college and graduation, not to mention a serious jab at the art world. It's a period of learning and finding a balance between internalizing lessons and my actual work, which sounds far simpler than it truthfully is in practice.
To get myself off on the right foot, I took my new Intuos Pro for a spin and did a series of studies. The first four were done within the span of an hour altogether, while the latter took about 30 minutes.

Sargent Study
Today I took about 10 minutes out of my schedule for a Sargent study-- he's one of my absolute favorite inspirations, and the way he paints is phenomenal.

Thumb Studies
I think I may just have found my new favorite warm up! I finished a huge chunk of ctrl+paint this past week and one of the exercises included tiny canvas sketches to get the overall theme of ~colour harmony~ from an image, so I gave it a go. I’m digging it.

FSPK Final Logo
Long at last, I've settled on a final copy of the logo for From the Sugar Plum Kingdom. Pretty pleased with it!

Platform 7 GUI Revisited
I was going through my school laptop last night and found some old GUI from a game I had been working on in 2013/2014– the game itself was mostly finished, but I think I’ll likely remaster it somewhere down the road. Since it would only take like 10 minutes tops, I just went ahead and mocked the bottom up for fun
