SCAD Challenge
So the SCAD challenge is coming up! The theme is fairly straightforward and seems to be passed from year to year-- at most, five pages of "how my art can change the world". In response, I narrowed things down to this small chunk of text;
We look to art to find embellished realities-- the places we could see, the people we could be--
And when our surroundings become too dark, we look to art to be uplifted or to seek shared experiences, veracity to face the evils in this world. We identify bits of our lives with both the knight and the beast, fragments of simultaneous vulnerability and strength, and if my art can tell at least one person that they are not alone in the battle, surely it could mean the world to those to come.
Of course I brought out my favorite go-to elements of fantasy, and I think I want to use a 'storybook' motif and really emphasize the mention of man vs beast.
I scribbled down a few notes before getting to work:
-The pages should begin and end on a book, vines growing forth to signify a bloom that comes paired with narration.
-Use fantasy scenes and personae (places we could see, people we could be)
-More realistic scene at the end, various kids/people gathered around the book; alt-- a new book being written alongside the old
